New year's eve was celebrated like all the other "western holidays:" crowds of expats and saucy local Chinese women fighting for space in the restaurants and bars of Sanlitun. When asked if they care about new year's eve, one of my colleagues' students replied, "no, because it's your holiday, not ours." To that end, for those of you who follow the Gregorian solar calendar, I wish you a happy new year!! 新年快乐!!!
