The Tsinghua foreign languages department had its annual new year's/Christmas/lunar new year/end-of-fall-term party this past week. With all Chinese parties, there's a talent show portion of the evening. Here are some of my faculty colleagues doing what can best be described as a cheerleading routine. And to think, their fellow countrymen brought you precision dancing at the Olympics opener.

These are faculty. I'm trying to imagine members of the faculty where I went to school swishing pom-poms. It just ain't happening, and I was in the Drama department, for pete's sake! I'm really fascinated by the Chinese love of spectacle. Not only to they seem to eat it up as spectators, there appears to be no end of willing participants. Does this predate communisim in China?
interesting that all these 'cheerleaders' are women. I guess this kind of talent isn't appropriate for the men??
