A friend invited me to hear Dr. Jane Goodall speak at a "Christmas party" fundraiser for the Jane Goodall Institute. At 74 years old, the fetching Dr. Jane travels the world to talk about environmental issues and to raise funds for her Institute, as well as her Roots & Shoots youth program. The fundraiser was a people-watching colonialist parade of rich, ugly, geriatric American and British corporate expats (hairy eardrums, liver spots, ruddy complexions) with their young, well-groomed, and non-English proficient Chinese wives and some very misbehaved and entitled hapa toddlers.
