Deck the halls with randomness

The university's Bureau of International Exchange and Cooperation & Office of Foreign Experts threw a little holiday party for us, um, foreign experts. It was a nice reception of "foreign" folks from throughout the university -- from the department of nuclear physics to the school of architecture. The University busted out an endless supply of "Great Wall" red wine (who knew you could ferment grapes to taste like soy sauce) and decorated the restaurant -- complete with "Disney baby" gift bags-- in a way that can only be explained in photo. Below is a video excerpt of the entertainment portion of the night, which involved some Chinese faculty getting their kids to karaoke. You know what? Hearing your kid sing off key is not so cute.

I think it's really sweet that they tried to do something for you. Our Christmas/Holiday party for work was nachos and taquitos at the really cheap Mexican restaurant down the street. If you wanted food or booze you're on your own. Not a Disney baby gift bag in sight. No decorations, no gift exchange... Suffice it to say I ditched the party and went out with my family.
I like the reproduction "marble" sculptures of some of the world's most famous works of art. I think this fits in nicely with the whole plagiarism pattern. Why create something unique when you can just copy?
