Cell Block H

I like eating animals and I really don't mind having them test out my hair products, but today's visit to the Beijing Zoo brought out the PETA in me. Part of the zoo had been beautifully renovated for the Olympics (such as the "Olympic Panda House"), but in the back of the park we found the pre-Olympics zone, which looked like a detention camp for sad, mangy animals locked up in penitentiary-style cells. It was a heartbreaking scene. Signs asked that you not feed the animals, but there were no zoo employees monitoring the area, so lots of clueless visitors tossed popcorn, bread, candy, and fruit at the animals.
