Corn is a fruit
I have a cleaning lady who comes by once a week. The literal translation for cleaning lady is "beat sweep." I'm embarrassed to admit that I don't know her name. I probably asked a half-dozen times at first, but back then I couldn't really understand
her thick country accent. Now I feel like it's too late to ask for her name again. She calls me "Teacher Mao" and I call her, "Hey you!"
Yesterday we had a conversation about ice cream. She told me that her favorite flavor is corn. Interesting. I explained that in America we treat corn like a vegetable and put butter on it. Good god she thought that was funny. Probably the craziest thing she's heard all year. Can you imagine? Butter. On. Corn! Oh, those poor, misguided Americans.
