Kanye's Homecoming

Kanye West lived in China for a year at the age of 10 when his mother was here on a Fullbright. We were hoping he'd give a shout-out in Mandarin; but actually, he didn't even address us. At all. Was he on a tight leash? Kanye ran through his songs without greeting or acknowledging the crowd. I blame Bjork. He put on a great show even though it must have been frustrating for him to perform to a half-empty arena with a subdued mosh pit that sat 20 feet away from the stage. And, as you can see in the video above, folks in the mosh pit weren't allowed to stand during the concert, or uniformed military guys would scold them to sit back down. But in the end, the mosh pit couldn't contain itself any longer and jumped to its feet and, as you see in the video below, security couldn't control the happy, dancing crowd.

so awesome! the mosh pit was only politely responding to Kanye's request to "jump, jump!" during the song, and they get scolded! :)
